It’s a huge running LED!

These are pics of the expo bridge in Daejeon city. At night, there’s a light show utilizing the LEDs placed alongside the bridge’s structure, creating a huge running LED. The running LED shows different images, starting from simple lines, heart shapes, light house, to a writing in Hangeul.

This photo is taken from a platform located at the side of the Gapcheon river. If you go night riding, make sure to stop by and enjoy the lightshow along with the beautiful reflection on the water surface. Note: I don’t know whether they show this every night or not.

The hiking trail behind Uam Historical Park

As I said last time, I ended up taking the hiking trail located right behind Uam Historical Park. Although it’s a hiking trail, it’s not really much of a hike, and not too tiring.

For your information, this hiking trail connects to other trails forming quite a long hiking trail along the eastern part of Daejeon, near Daecheonghosu lake. Based on the tourism map that I got earlier, I’m aiming to go to Jihyeonsong fortress. However, it seems that during the hike I end up taking the wrong turn and turn up elsewhere.

But it’s still quite an amazing place and I managed to get a view of Daejeon city from above 😀

Daejeon from above

Sorry for the image, it’s a bit hard to take a good shot using my phone’s camera.

Another thing that you should note is that hiking is usually practiced by middle aged Korean  men and women. When you go hiking, you’ll mostly meet Ajumma and Ajossi along the way. Heck, I didn’t even meet any young people the last time I went to this place.

Oh and there’s something really unique at one of the higher spot of the hiking trail. This:

A gym in the middle of a forest

How did they put all those equipment right there? I mean, the nearest road is some distance away, and this place is only accessible using hiking trail. And even on foot, you need to go through some slopes. I just can’t imagine anyone treading along the trail carrying these kinds of heavy gym equipments. Helicopter, maybe? But there’s no helipad or any clear space around, either. Asians. Oh and as usual, the facility is used by middle aged people :D.

My location according to the map nearby

If you want to go for a light hike, the trail can be found just behind Uam’s library. I’m tempted to take the other route next time, to see where it will lead me to. Yes, preferably in autumn, where the leaves turn red :).

Uam Historical Park

Last Wednesday, we had a day off here in Korea because of memorial day. I took this opportunity to hop on my bike and explore the city of Daejeon. Truth to be told, there aren’t many tourist attractions in Daejeon because it positions itself more as a “Silicon Valley” instead of city for tourism. But nonetheless, I managed to find this pleasant spot.

This place is located on the eastern part of Daejeon, and I can reach it from KAIST in around an 90 minutes by bike. The best way would be to cycle along the riverside to avoid traffic lights.

The place itself is more of a historical site (hence the name) and more suited for relaxing. There’s no shop inside the park, only historical buildings, one museum, one library, and one main office. The site of the park itself is also located at the outskirt of Daejeon city, giving it a calm and tranquil atmosphere.

For most part, you can enjoy the old historical buildings and the greeneries. There is also a  lake inside the park, although it is quite dry when I visited there. The park makes a great place to take pictures and go on a picnic.

Where the past meets the present

Since I come just at the beginning of the summer, the trees are green. However, I’d like to see the sight of the mountain behind the park turning yellow during autumn.

In case you finished strolling around the park, there’s a hiking trail just behind the site in case you’d like to have some mountain climbing :D. I ended up hiking without any prior planning, but that’s a story for another post hahaha.

Haiyah!
