It’s hard to pick the right benchmark to see how good you are. Look to far up and you’ll feel worthless. Look too far down and you’ll become complacent. It’s easy to feel that you’re at the bottom here in KAUST, because apparently hefty amount of funding and excellent research facilities attract monsters from all over the world.
Is it just me who is inexperienced, or is my skills indeed are lacking? If you tell a graduate student to run faster, will he actually arrive at his destination faster, or he’ll just get lost in the middle of nowhere because there really is no clear cut map on where you are going in grad school?
